This assignment focused on the generation of a tessellated surface which employed Grasshopper as well as other digital and physical modeling techniques. After iterating various cellular systems through physical and digital models, our finalized design composed of two layers of staggered star-like shapes. We proposed implementing the cellular system as a facade for outdoor dining sheds to accommodate COVID-19 regulations.
By the end of the second full winter with COVID-19, most outdoor dining sheds in New York City had seen better days. We proposed a system that could be 3D printed on or off site and easily assembled, providing restaurants with an affordable, beautiful, and safe outdoor dining experience.
